1972 Game Action vs Cortland

1972 Game Action vs Cortland
Eagle QB Dennis Rosolowski around left end
Half a century ago we endured triple sessions in the August heat, pounded each other on a daily basis, and battled rugged competition weekly, all in spartan conditions. We bled green and gold.

And we had fun together, too.

Half a century later we have our memories and we have each other. We no longer flash the green and gold like we did in the day. Ours is the color that comes with age, experience, and some wisdom.

We are The Gray Eagles. Our stories are preserved here.

An early email from the vault...

April 10, 2012

Don Vogelgesang was a center for Ohio State when Tom Matte was the QB. He later returned there as a trainer. I remember when we were having our summer triple sessions, he over-ruled Coached D and he made him give us a water break. Like that man. A great teacher, too. Made me put my swollen ankle in a bucket of ice water in front of the sports training class to demonstrate the proper treatment.. That wasn't easy. Don worked at Ohio State when my friend Bob Palcic was the line coach there. He told Bob how much he enjoyed Brockport and the beauts he was a trainer for.

Another memory: we played Grove City at home in 1971 and Steve Lashbrook had 70 yard touchdown run. For once I was looking forward to seeing the game film. On Monday, the defense would watch them first while the offense would practice. When it was our turn and we were switching stations, the defensive guys told us how well we blocked on that play. When we got into to the film room somebody had stolen the film and projector and we never got to see our perfect play.

I remember that it was a hot day when we played that game.Grove City melted in the 2nd half and we pushed them all over the field. Those grueling triple sessions paid off. We were better conditioned then Grove City and that was one of the big reasons we won that day. A life lesson learned, courtesy of Coach D.

Casullo, you had a pretty good day running, too. Not bad for a guy from Little Falls!
