BIG GAMES: 1969 Indiana State 17, Brockport 3
An early Gray Eagle email
I, like Assenheimer, Turkow, Jank, Nash, and all the others were freshmen that year and I remember being at that game. It was truly a "big time" small college football game. I remember distinctly saying to myself, "What the hell am I, from Little Falls NY, doing here, hoping to play ball with these guys?" Sheesh! But as we freshmen were brought over each and every Wednesday with Coaches Shine, Harrington, and Bizarro, and allowed to get pummeled by frustrated varsity players because of their close scores in Saturday games, I became enthralled with the idea of 'Hey, maybe, just maybe, I can hold up and help these guys!' Then for the next three years, as guys graduated and new guys took over, there was still ALWAYS one constant: Coach D and his way of butchering names, hurling less than complimentary statements, and grinding, grueling practices, but some how molding us together into a team that would literally fight for each other ON and OFF the field. I'm proud to be a part of this group and wonder what the hell happened that we went so many years without communicating? Let's make up for lost time and reunite in our "Golden Eagle" years and enjoy each others company, reminisce and, of course, embellish our playing careers!
Sincerely, ex Coach Chippy (Casullo), #44
