1972 Game Action vs Cortland
Eagle QB Dennis Rosolowski around left end
Half a century ago we endured triple sessions in the August heat, pounded each other on a daily basis, and battled rugged competition weekly, all in spartan conditions. We bled green and gold.

And we had fun together, too.

Half a century later we have our memories and we have each other. We no longer flash the green and gold like we did in the day. Ours is the color that comes with age, experience, and some wisdom.

We are The Gray Eagles. Our stories are preserved here.

GOWANDA GOLD STOCKED EARLY '70S GOLDEN EAGLES

"...Center Tim Bobsein was a good interior lineman on the 1967 team that defeated Eisenhower, PA and Fredonia during Ernie Bareham's first year as Panthers head coach. Bobsein was a first team all-star who later played three years of football at Brockport State College.
When Gowanda joined the ECIC Division IV in 1968, players such as Gary 'Pizza' Peters and lineman Hank Huff were all-stars. After starting the season with an 0-3 record, the Blue and White won four of their next five games. Included in the string of victories were upset wins over Grand Island and Eden. Huff also played on the offensive line at Brockport College.
Dan Elvin was a very good two-way back (QB and DB) who led Gowanda to a winning record in 1969....Elvin joined Bobsein and Huff on the Brockport squad in 1971.

Tim Bobsein coached Special Olympics athletes for twenty-five years and was enshrined in the Cattaraugus Hall of Fame in 2015.

Your correspondent played much of the 1971 season at right guard, between Timmy and Hank, who was our Right Tackle. Danny started at QB as a rookie. I was surrounded by Gowandans!

Rest in peace, Hank.
